Then, our pulses quickening to the point where we fear losing consciousness, we see the Bull wink again, and lean in, beginning to whisper into the Demon’s muslin shroud, its tremendous tongue against its new companion’s Evil Head.

The gesture is motherly, protective, perhaps flirtatious. The awful voice stops, and in this way we are saved, but afflicted by a sudden jealousy, desperate to hear what we had, a moment ago, been desperate to stop hearing.

The Demon laughs knowingly, like the two of them are now conspiring against us.
